Service Learning Components

College of Education Project SOAR Mentors

Mentoring program coordinated through the Center for the Study of Higher Education in the UA College of Education. Students will be mentoring middle school students at the Wildcat School. Students will earn points towards a book scholarship for participating in the mentoring component.

  • Timeline: Take the Mentoring course in fall and then mentor throughout the academic year
  • Limited to about 25 students
  • Students will be required to enroll in HED service learning/access course
  • Students will be required to mentor in an elementary or middle school
  • Students will receive a monetary stipend from the UA College of Education

Transformative Civic Engagement Project

An opportunity for additional involvement in the program and service learning experience. Students will earn points towards a book scholarship for participating in the civic engagement project.

  • Timeline: Begin early Spring, set up service project by March.
  • Introduction to transformative civic engagement component
  • Service project planning
